Personality

Akarin is an assertive individual who is a firm but fair leader. He would never ask another to do something he wouldn’t be willing to do himself, and is generally very accepting of everyone. Having come from nothing himself, he has a great respect for the ambition in others to better themselves and make their own place in the world. His somewhat cynical outlook stems from his time before Saint Lawrence and the cruelty he saw in the world. Akarin is not one to suffer fools and has little tolerance for ignorance, or more specifically the lack of any work ethic to speak of. As such, he endeavours to be as knowledgeable as possible and takes great pleasure in learning new skills. Though he has his pride, he is more than willing to defer to another more informed individual when the situation arises to pool resources and ensure the safety of the pack. They are the only family he has, and they protect their own.

He is careful to weighs his words before he speaks and rarely acts impulsively, preferring to consider every move and the resulting consequence. His natural tendency to dissect everyone’s intentions and words, including his own, can lead him to be suspicious at times and makes it difficult for him to form meaningful friendships. On the surface always appears perfectly charming and plote, but he often lacks the openness to build anything deeper than surface level relationships. His constant alertness means he is always a little on-edge, never fully relaxing, and he finds it difficult to stay still for long.

Despite his general wariness, he finds great joy in exploring new territories and hungrily seeks out new information and experiences. This curiosity has been known to unwittingly get him into some tricky situations, but he is normally well enough equipped to talk his way out of them. He knows well when it is best to keep silent, to hold ones tongue or smooth things over to avoid confrontation. Akarin likes to pick and choose his battles, and is well aware of his own weaknesses. He is not hugely interested in dominance games, and will only challenge another if he is sure that he is the more worthwhile candidate for the role. He is very honest in this sense, and will respect someone based on the skills and ranks they have earned, as opposed to those they were born into. Akarin thrives most when he has a purpose, and feels most at home managing and organising a situation. He likes to know his place in the world, and though he does not enjoy violence, he understands that it is sometimes unavoidable. He strongly believes in survival by any means necessary, but will always take the path of least resistance first, and only resort to drastic measures if there is no other way. He is not afraid to ask for help, although he dislikes appearing weak and prefers to try and resolve things himself.

APPEARANCE

Akarin is a large wolf in height, but not in bulk. He is a Eurasian wolf by species, and his lithe form is more suited to running than fighting, but what he lacks in strength he makes up for in speed and agility. Dark russet markings frame his tan face, and sweep down his spine to his thick tail. Bright amber eyes gaze out of his angular face, inquisitive and constantly alert, unable to focus on one thing for very long. His body is constantly moving in some way and he has a habit of flicking his tail with restless energy or pacing to and fro. Months of living on the small prey found in and around the city has left him thin, but all the sharper in mind for it. Despite this, he still has his pride and he moves with a quiet confidence to his gait, striding out as he moves to intercept new travellers.

History

Akarin begun life in a pack that lived in a very rocky region that was situated in the foothills of a great mountain range. He was one of only two pups that were born to his mother; more had been expected but due to the scarcity of prey that year everyone in the pack was feeling the effects. The heat was taking its toll on all the animals, and water sources were few and far between. Both pups were small at birth and kept their leanness throughout their adolescence, both due to their genetics and their slow starvation at the hands of the cruel world they were born into.

Fights broke out among the pack as the dew remaining adults warred for dominance. As a young male and a potentially threat despite his lithe stature, Akarin was forced to set out alone. After seeing what starvation did to his friends and family, he was determined to build a better life for the stragglers like himself, and anyone else who needed help. As he aged he matured, and though his idealistic views were somewhat dampened, nothing could destroy the hope he had to find a home to call is own. He travelled out of the foothills and crossed many dusty plains and forests on his way, sometimes meeting other wolves as he did so. He did not stop for long anywhere, the scorching heat forcing him to keep moving onward, into less damaged territory. He came across Saint Lawrence and was immediately drawn to the cool shade the buildings provided, on of the few places he seen that still had standing walls. The surrounding forests had all but burnt down in the wild fires sweeping the lands, so he took shelter in the ruined streets among the long forgotten relics of another age.

Driving a few stray dogs from an old dock yard, he set about making himself at home. This was a good as place as any, and he was sure other travellers would pass through on their way north.
